Yes you can do it.It's good if you get sponsor.I have seen people who get GC approval while they were still on OPT.GC is always better than H1B since you don't have to agree with all your employer terms and conditions and you can work indepentenly anywhere and get more money since it cuts layers in many cases.

Do not do it. You may get questioned because OPT is still F1 and F1 is not dual intent visa. F1 is visa that was given to you to finish studies and go back home. You should apply for h1b visa since h1b is a dual intent visa. And then from h1b apply for green card.
